The 21st death anniversary of renowned folk and Ghazal singer Malika Pukhraj is being observed on Tuesday.
Her original name was Hamida. Malika Pukhraj was born in a village near Akhnoor in Jammu in 1910. Her family moved to Pakistan after the partition.
Malika Pukhraj received her training from Ustad Ali Baksh Kasuri, father of legendary singer Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan.
Malika Pukhraj also sang Hafeez Jalandhri's famous song 'Abhi Tou Mein Jawan Hoon' and 'Wo Baaten Teri, Wo Fasane Tere' in a unique way.
She was awarded Presidential Pride of Performance Award for her unmatched performance.
She died on this day in Lahore in 2004.
