A M Shahid (Former Diplomat):An understanding between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov to further strengthen Pakistan-Kyrgyzstan economic partnership is a good step towards regional economic integration. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic signed the document in Bishkek. As per agreement Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan will enhance the bilateral trade tune to two hundred million dollars in the next two years. Factually, Kyrgyzstan is a landlocked country so Bishkek will be happy to have Pakistan as a trade partner. Pakistan can export agricultural, jewelry and other products to Kyrgyzstan. Both countries have agreed to higher bilateral trade tune to $200 million per year in next two years; however, it is a good jump from current bilateral trade which is $16 million. Pakistan has always been open to dialogue to resolve outstanding issues and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has also advocated for resolution of issues through dialogue. I am astonished why Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) leaders press India to abide by international treaties and agreements. It is a good gesture of positive development that Pakistan has assumed chair of SCO and Islamabad will host SCO summit next year. I think that India must restore and abide by Indus Waters Treaty.
