Analysts praise government’s measures to provide relief to common man
May 03, 2022

Dr. Noor Fatima (Economist): The basic challenge for incumbent government is economy. Food and other forms of inflation is quite high in the country. Energy crisis is another major challenge. The current government has shown its willingness and intent to overcome the problem of load-shedding. It took measures to restart the suspended power plants as well as arranging fuel for the active ones. The agreement with IMF is also very important to bring financial stability in the country. IMF wants government to meet certain conditions for the revival of its programme. However, the government is taking serious measures to strengthen economy.

Dr. Aliya Hashmi (Economist): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is cognizant of the fact that Pakistan is facing serious economic challenges at the moment. First of all, we need to resume IMF program in order to build our foreign exchange reserves to pay for imports and other uses. The budget deficit is huge and for it a number of measures need to be taken including enhancing the tax collection. The current environment of the country is not conducive for foreign investment. Incumbent government is taking right steps to bring down the prices of essential items.  The government has not increased the prices of petroleum products so far in order to not put additional burden on ordinary people.

Dr. Zahid Anwar Khan (IR Expert): Top leadership of the country has congratulated whole nation and Ummah on the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. Prime Minister in his message has reiterated to resolve the economic challenges of the country through consistent effort and hard work. Keeping faith in Allah and working with sincerity can help resolve many issues being faced by the country. The collective efforts of the coalition government can be helpful in tackling the issues head on.  People of the country are happy and celebrating the Eid festival.
