President calls for increasing reach of Pakistan Academy of Letters

President Dr Arif Alvi has emphasized on increasing the reach of Pakistan Academy of Letters through digitalization.                                                   

He was talking to a high-level delegation in Islamabad on Friday, of Pakistan Academy of Letters led by its Chairman Dr Yousaf Khushk.                   

Appreciating the Academy for promoting arts and literature in the country, the President said digitalization will help spread the Academy's literary products and services through web-based and cell phone-based applications.                           

The President said PAL should double up its networking by engaging local and international laureates to benefit from their expertise in improving the Academy's efficiency.                          

The Chairman PAL briefed the meeting that Academy pays monthly honoraria to writers and also gives financial assistance to bereaved families of deceased writers.

He said the Academy maintains a library to provide necessary reference material to research scholars, writers and students and more than 30,000 books and journals are available there.

Meanwhile, President Arif Alvi has said an ethical, morality and humanity based world order should be pursued to establish total peace in the world.

During a meeting with a delegation of Pakistan Institute of Peace Studies in Islamabad on Friday, he stressed the need for uniform and fair application of international laws, rules and regulations on all nations and on all people without any discrimination on the basis of colour, creed, race or religious beliefs.

The President said there is a need to respect the privacy of individuals and to create a society that is tolerant, open and welcoming to new ideas, innovations and diversity of views and opinions.
