In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front have urged Kashmiris to observe a shutdown on Sunday to honor the martyrdom anniversaries of prominent freedom leaders, Muhammad Maqbool Butt and Muhammad Afzal Guru.
Muhammad Afzal Guru was hanged on February 9, 2013, and Muhammad Maqbool Butt on February 11, 1984, in New Delhi’s Tihar Jail.
The sacrifices of the martyred leaders, whose mortal remains still buried within the confines of the jail continue to serve as a beacon of hope for Kashmiri generations striving for right to self-determination.
At a meeting in Srinagar, the APHC expressed grave concern over the atmosphere of oppression prevailing in the territory.
The meeting paid homage to nearly five lakh martyrs of the freedom movement, emphasizing their sacrifices for the sacred cause of self-determination.
Meanwhile, Gujjar Bakarwal community members held a protest demonstration in Jammu to voice their grievances against the Modi-led Indian regime’s discriminatory policies.
They called for the withdrawal of the so-called Jammu and Kashmir Scheduled Tribes Amendment Bill, tabled in the Indian parliament.
Similarly, leaders in Ladakh issued a stern warning to the Modi regime, threatening intensified protests if their demands were not met by February 19.
