Analysts praise statement of US State Department spokesperson for resolution of Kashmir issue
February 07, 2021

Dr. A. Z. Hilali (IR Expert): Regional situation is tense and the newly elected US President must play his role to normalize it. Prime Minister Imran Khan in his Kashmir Solidarity Day address urged the world to support the Kashmiris to get their right to self-determination in accordance with the UN resolutions. The statement of US State Department is of vital importance in this regard. The entire world has taken notice of blockade of internet services in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and is forcing India to resume the facilities. The international community and the US administration now have to be active for resolution of Kashmir, Palestine and other issues of Muslim world. Present government under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan is doing a wonderful job in exposing the aggressive and discriminatory Indian policies and its human rights abuses in the occupied valley.

Brig. (Retd.) Said Nazir (Defense Analyst): United States is the sole super power and strategic ally of India, so it must use its influence to force New Delhi to give the Kashmiris their right to self-determination. Unlike Donald Trump, President Joe Biden is mostly concerned about human rights. We are hopeful that newly elected US president will take action against grave human rights violations being committed in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. On the other hand, the United States also supports India to counter the emerging China. Indian forces faced exemplary humiliation at Laddakh region by the Chinese forces. China opposed India's decision to revoke the special status of Kashmir, a disputed region sandwiched among India, Pakistan and China. Kashmir issue is a nuclear flashpoint and must be resolved as early as possible. The world should realize that if the situation escalates, it may lead to a nuclear war between India and Pakistan.

Maj. Gen. (Retd.) Ejaz Awan (Defense Analyst): The statement of US State Department was anticipated and it is a positive development. Joe Biden during his vice president ship was very vocal about human rights issues across the globe. We are hopeful that he will definitely act as per his commitments. India is among countries where human rights abuses are at peak. The minorities in India are experiencing a very difficult situation. Moreover, the Indian atrocities in Kashmir and use of cluster bombs and pellet guns on innocent people, arrest of Kashmiri youth, and using rape as weapon of war must be noticed by the new US President. United Nations on its part must send fact finding missions to both sides of LoC to analyze the actual situation. In the light of report of UN Observer Group, pressure must be exerted on India to force him to give Kashmiris the right of plebiscite.
