Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif launched a project in Islamabad today, to convert one hundred thousand agriculture tube wells on Solar Power across the country.
Speaking on the occasion, he said agriculture is a sector which will bring economic prosperity in the country.
The Prime Minister said to develop our agriculture sector, we need to facilitate our farmers by providing them with good quality seeds, low cost fertilizers and electricity.
He said low cost electricity is inevitable for every sector of economy including industry, agriculture and exports as everything is dependent on it and solar power is the ultimate relief in this regard.
Shehbaz Sharif said this project will bring a new revolution in the agriculture sector of our country.
Addressing the ceremony, Minister for National Food Security Bashir Cheema said due to timely measures and special attention of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to Agricultural sector, the economic condition of our farmers is improving.
Terming the agricultural sector backbone of our economy, he said 37 percent of people are linked with this sector, therefore, projects like solarisation of tube wells are of great importance to provide relief to farmers.
The Minister said first time in the history, almost 98 percent utilisation of PM Kisan Package has been completed.
Federal Secretary for National Food Security Zafar Hussain said under this project within three years 100,000 tube wells will be converted to solarised under joint collaboration of Federal and provincial governments.
The project has also designed plans for the motor pumps installed in arid land to make it cultivable.
