In Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the alliance of the National Conference and Congress handed a crushing defeat to Narendra Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by winning 48 seats in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections.

The BJP secured only 29 seats.

These were the first assembly elections since the revocation of Jammu and Kashmir's special status.

Meanwhile, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) stated that, despite massive troop deployments and state machinery, the BJP’s humiliating defeat in these elections shows that the Kashmiri people reject India's occupation of their homeland.

In a statement today, an APHC spokesman said the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections were a drama staged by India to perpetuate its illegal occupation, but the outcome clearly underscores Kashmir’s status as an international dispute.
