Pope Francis opened a celebration of Mass on Easter on Sunday.

The ceremony is joined by dozens of prelates and tens of thousands of pilgrims and tourists in St. Peter's Square at the Vatican.

Some 45,000 people have gathered by the start of the mid-morning Mass.

On this occasion, Pope Francis expressed deep concern over tension between Israel and Palestinians.

He said the renewed violence threatens the climate of trust and mutual respect.
