Qatar, Egypt and the United States have called on Israel and Palestine to resume talks to reach a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

A joint statement signed by US President Joe Biden, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, and the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, says that the three nations have achieved a comprehensive framework agreement, with only the technical details of implementation pending conclusion.

The countries have urged Israel and Palestine to resume urgent discussion on August 15 in Doha or Cairo to close all remaining gaps and commence implementation of ceasefire deal without further delay.

The joint statement comes amid months of failed attempts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza where Israeli assault is continuing since October last year.
