At the United Nations, Pakistan has called for a stronger General Assembly and more effective implementation of UN resolutions.
Speaking at the UN General Assembly plenary meeting, First Secretary Ansar Shah underscored the Assembly's unique role as the only principal UN organ with universal membership, embodying the principles of sovereign equality and inclusivity.
The Pakistani delegate reiterated Pakistan's proposal for establishing a dedicated mechanism to monitor the implementation of General Assembly resolutions, supported by regular and detailed reporting by the Secretariat.
Ansar Shah also called for a stronger and more transparent institutional relationship between the General Assembly and the Security Council, including more frequent and substantive reporting by the Council to the Assembly.
On the selection of the Secretary-General and other executive heads of the organization, Pakistan reaffirmed the principles of transparency, inclusivity, gender parity and equitable regional representation, and expressed hope for an expeditious conclusion of selection process for the Secretary-General to ensure a smooth transition.
