All Parties Hurriyat Conference has paid glowing tribute to senior Hurriyat leader Altaf Ahmad Shah on his martyrdom anniversary.
He died in Indian custody on this day in 2022. Following his arrest in 2017, he was lodged in New Delhi's notorious Tihar Jail, where he developed kidney cancer.
Meanwhile, protests were held in various parts of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir against the deletion of millions of voters' names under the pretext of the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and to demand the resignation of India's Chief Election Commissioner. Indian forces used brute force to prevent demonstrators from proceeding and arrested several activists.
On the other hand, speakers at a seminar held in Muzaffarabad, the capital of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, said the Kashmir dispute is not merely a political conflict but a question of the fundamental rights, political future and right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people. They said a just settlement of the dispute is essential for lasting peace in South Asia.
The speakers urged the United Nations and the international community to take serious notice of the human rights situation in IIOJK, the continued detention of Hurriyat leadership and the hardships faced by the Kashmiri people.
