Omar Abdullah rejects imposition of uniform civil code in IIOJK
October 06, 2026

In Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has rejected any move to impose the Uniform Civil Code in the territory, challenging the BJP-led Indian government to bring the legislation before Parliament instead of pushing it selectively through individual states.

According to Kashmir Media Service, speaking to reporters in Srinagar, Omar Abdullah refused to implement the Uniform Civil Code, saying that several other Indian state governments had also opposed its implementation.

He argued that a law purportedly intended to be uniform should be debated and considered at the national level rather than introduced separately by individual states.
