Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, All Parties Hurriyat Conference leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has urged New Delhi to resolve the long-standing Kashmir dispute through dialogue.
Addressing a large gathering at the historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar on Friday, he also called for the immediate release of Kashmiri political prisoners, including Hurriyat leaders, lawyers and human rights activists, who have been unjustly detained in Indian and IIOJK jails.
Mirwaiz said the recent outcomes of the so-called assembly elections in IIOJK serve as a powerful rebuke to the Modi government's unilateral and illegal decisions made in August 2019.
He emphasized that these actions have resulted in the erosion of the rights and identity of Kashmiris, effectively silencing their voices in the process.
Meanwhile, protests erupted across Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir on Friday as demonstrators expressed their outrage over recent sacrilegious remarks made by Hindutva priest Yati Narsinghanand.
People took to the streets at various places across the Jammu region and the Kashmir Valley following congregational Friday prayers, demanding the Hindu priest's immediate arrest and calling for stringent legal action against him.
Speakers at the protests criticized the BJP-led Indian government for its inaction, which they argued implies complicity and a disregard for Muslim sentiments.
They insisted that his remarks hurt Muslims worldwide and undermine the sanctity of their faith.
