The Modi-led Indian regime has intensified its repression in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, invoking draconian laws against peaceful demonstrators.
In the latest crackdown, the occupation authorities have booked five civilians in Kishtwar district under inhuman Public Safety Act and Unlawful Activities Prevention Act after they staged a protest against the exploitation of local water resources by the India-based Hydroelectric Power Corporation.
Twenty-two more civilians have been listed to be charged under the brutal laws.
The move has sparked widespread condemnation, with All Parties Hurriyat Conference in a statement mocking the so-called democratic credentials of India under Modi.
The statement pointed out that Kashmiris have been virtually banned from raising their voice in support of their demands.
Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti termed the continued use of such harsh laws on trivial charges as shocking.
Meanwhile, Indian troops have launched sweeping cordon and search operations across Srinagar, Sopore, Bandipora, Kupwara, Islamabad, and other areas, with a particular focus on Kishtwar district.
The Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party has urged the international community to take immediate action against the prolonged detention and harsh treatment of Kashmiri detainees in Indian jails.
