Shutdown to be observed in IIOJK tomorrow to mark Kashmir Martyrs’ Day
July 12, 2024

Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control, in Pakistan and around the world will observe Kashmir Martyrs' Day tomorrow to honour the martyrs of July 13, 1931 and all other Kashmiris who sacrificed their lives in the struggle for freedom from Hindu tyranny.

The day will be marked by a complete shutdown in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, with a march towards the Martyrs’ Graveyard at Naqshband Sahib in Srinagar, where the martyrs of July 13 are buried.

The incarcerated leadership of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference has called for the observance of the day.

Rallies, seminars and other events will be held in Azad Kashmir, Pakistan and major cities worldwide to pay tribute to the 22 Kashmiri martyrs who were shot one after another by Dogra Maharaja troops on July 13, 1931.

Illegally detained APHC leaders, including Chairman Masarat Aalam Butt, Shabbir Ahmed Shah and Nayeem Ahmad Khan paid tributes to the martyrs, hailing them as leading lights who continue to guide and motivate Kashmiris in their courageous resistance against Indian occupation.

Senior APHC leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, addressing the Juma congregation at the historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar, praised the July 13 martyrs for bravely confronting tyranny and sacrificing their lives to uphold the rights and dignity of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

On the other hand, the BJP-led Indian government has deployed additional personnel from the Indian army and paramilitary forces in IIOJK to intimidate Kashmiris demanding their UN-recognized right to self-determination.
