Additional Chief Secretary South Punjab Saqib Zafar has said that cotton is the backbone of the Pakistan's economy.

While presiding over a high level meeting to review the status of the cotton cultivation held in Bahawalpur, he said that Punjab Government is taking effective steps to revive the cultivation of Cotton in South Punjab.

Additional Chief Secretary South Punjab Saqib Zafar said that cotton is a cash crop which strengthens the economy of the Country, brings prosperity in the lives of farmers and produces employment opportunities.

Secretary Agriculture Punjab Iftikhar Ali Sahoo has said that cotton cultivation is ongoing in South Punjab on an area of forty five lac fifty four thousands acres under cotton cultivation drive.

He said that current year cotton will be cultivated on 50 lac acres and 82 lac bales will be produced as per the target given by the Punjab Government.

He said that 91 percent target of Cotton cultivation will be achieved from South Punjab.
