The156th death anniversary of renowned poet Mirza Assadullah Khan Ghalib is being observed today (Saturday).

Mirza Ghalib was born in Agra on December 27, 1797 and initially started his poetic passion in Persian language.

However, after shifting to Delhi he started poetry in Urdu language.

Ghalib wrote hundreds of Ghazals during his life which have been interpreted and sung in many different ways. 

His poetic work Diwan-i-Ghalib, Kulyat and Maktoobat were published in Persian language.

Mirza Ghalib died on this date in 1869 in Delhi.
