Caretaker Minister for Information and Broadcasting Murtaza Solangi has said the government fully believes in media freedom as it is a fundamental right that cannot be denied under any circumstance.
Talking to Chairman Pakistan Observer Faisal Zahid Malik who called on him in Islamabad today, he said journalists have always played an important role in the development and stability of the country.
Murtaza Solangi said media needs to play an unbiased role in providing evidence-based authentic information to public.
He said the government is trying to provide training and technical assistance to journalists.
Regarding media's importance regarding coverage of elections, the Minister said journalism plays a role of bridge between the contesting candidates and voters.
He said media, through its news coverage, discussions and analyses, transforms public view. He said media should play an impartial role, while disseminating evidence based credible information.
Earlier, addressing a conference on civic problems in Islamabad today, Murtaza Solangi said the caretaker government has launched Pakistan's first startup fund worth two billion rupees to boost the IT sector.
He said it was expected to generate at least fifty billion rupees annually in the startup ecosystem.
The Minister said that the government recognized the need for evidence-based decision-making to ensure just allocation of resources. He said that there was a great potential in Pakistan to focus on developing innovative local solutions.
