A ceasefire between Israel and Hamas has been reached to end a fifteen month war in besieged Gaza enclave.
This was announced by the Prime Minister of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, in a statement last night, following the recent round of talks in Doha.
US President Joe Biden confirmed the deal, which involves a full and complete ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza and the release of all the hostages.
Mediators said the deal will go into effect on Sunday and starts with a 42-day period that would see the release of 33 Israeli captives and a number of Palestinian prisoners.
The United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres says easing "the tremendous suffering caused by this conflict" is the first priority, with the UN ready to increase aid deliveries to the Palestinians.
The World Food Programme has called for resources, access and protection to allow its teams to scale up aid to Gaza.
