In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, legal fraternity as well as regional political parties have strongly rejected the Delimitation Commission’s report, saying that the panel has compromised the fundamental principle of population as the main criteria for the creation of assembly seats.
The High Court Bar Association of occupied Kashmir, in a statement in Srinagar, described the Commission’s report as irrational and unreasonable and said that the panel members did not apply mind in the preparation of the report.
The Bar Association termed the report as drawing-room paperwork wherein demography and geography was not taken into account.
Meanwhile, Peoples’ Alliance for Gupkar Declaration leader, Mehbooba Mufti, in an interview in Srinagar said, no one is happy with the Delimitation Commission’s draft.
Another constituent of the Alliance, National Conference, in its statement said the Commission has scripted a story of disempowerment and disenfranchisement of the Kashmir Valley and far-flung areas of Jammu.
The statement said that equal representation as mandated by the fundamental principles of democracy was violated in the Commission’s report.
APHC leader Chaudhry Shaheen Iqbal, in a statement in Srinagar demanded immediate release of illegally detained Dukhtaran-e-Millat General Secretary, Naheeda Nasreen.
