IHC adjourns hearing of Sharif family's appeal against conviction

Islamabad High Court today(Tuesday) adjourned hearing into appeals filed by Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz and retired Captain Muhammad Safdar against their conviction in Avenfield reference by accountability court till last week of July.

Division bench comprising Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiani and Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb is hearing the appeals.

Advocate Khawaja Haris submitted arguments in the appeals of Nawaz Sharif while the appeals of Maryam Nawaz and retired Captain Muhammad Safdar were pleaded by Amjad Pervez.

The convicts had filed appeals for setting aside the accountability court's verdict, suspending the verdict till adjudication of the appeals and granting them bail, and transferring the remaining Al-Azizia and Flagship references against Nawaz Sharif and his family members to another court.

The high court has issued notices to National Accountability Bureau in all the appeals. The next date of hearing will be determined on availability of the division bench.

On sixth of this month, Accountability Judge Muhammad Bashir awarded ten years imprisonment to Nawaz Sharif, seven years to Maryam Nawaz, and one year sentence to retired Captain Muhammad Safdar. Nawaz Sharif and Marym Nawaz were also fined eight million pounds and two million pounds respectively.

Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz and retired Captain Muhammad Safdar are serving their sentences in Adiala Jail.
