Indian doctors continue strike after colleague's murder

In India, many doctors still remained off the job today despite the end of strike called by Indian Medical Association.

Earlier, doctors held a nationwide strike and protested against the rape and murder of a female colleague in the West Bengal city of Kolkata on August 9. 

The Indian Medical Association has described the killing as barbaric crime.

On the other hand, Indian Supreme Court has taken suo motu notice of rape and murder of female young trainee doctor.

Sexual violence against women is a widespread in India with an average of nearly ninety rapes a day were reported in 2022 in the country.

Meanwhile, in Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, doctors and paramedics also staged protests across the territory, demanding justice for the doctor. 

Doctors at Government Medical College and Associated Hospitals in Jammu went on an indefinite strike, suspending non-essential services.

Similar protests were also held in other medical colleges in Srinagar and Jammu.
