In Japan, thousands of people were evacuated after super typhoon Nanmadol made landfall on southern island of Kyushu, bringing strong winds and heavy rain in the region.

Meanwhile, authorities issued a tsunami warning for Okinawa, Japan's southernmost and westernmost prefecture, after a strong earthquake hit Taiwan.
