The United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for a global rescue plan for the Sustainable Development Goals.
In his opening remarks at the two-day summit on SDGs that commenced in New York, he called for action to reduce hunger, quicker transition to renewable energy, wider spread of the benefits and opportunities of digitalization, better education for children and youth, decent work and social protection, and climate action.
The summit provides world leaders with an opportunity to discuss progress on implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.
