APHC calls for complete shutdown in IIOJK on Friday against Modi's visit
June 20, 2024

In Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, complete shutdown will be observed tomorrow to protest against the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the territory.

Call for the strike has been given by the All Parties Hurriyat Conference to condemn the Modi’s visit as it is an attempt to mislead the international community about the real situation in the occupied territory.

In a statement in Srinagar, APHC spokesman Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas said the strike is a response to India's illegal occupation, revocation of Kashmiris' political rights and the ongoing atrocities in IIOJK.

He also called on the international community to take immediate action to resolve the Kashmir dispute, which poses a significant threat to regional peace and exacerbates the suffering of the Kashmiri people.

On the otherhand, strict restrictions remained imposed in Srinagar and adjoining areas in the name of security for Modi's visit to the city.

The city is resembling a military fortress with thousands of Indian forces personnel deployed, and surveillance devices such as drones and CCTV cameras installed. Door-to-door searches, frisking and questioning of residents have also been increased.

Meanwhile, protests were held at various places in held territory against anti-people policies.

These protests were staged in Kupwara, Udhampur and Rajouri districts.

Representatives from various political parties and civil society groups also joined the protest.

Meanwhile, a report released by Kashmir Media Service on the World Refugee Day, today, said that Indian state terrorism, spanning over a period of the past thirty-five years, has forced over forty thousand Kashmiri people including men, women and children to abandon their homes in IIOJK.

Senior APHC leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a statement issued in Srinagar on the occasion of Awami Action Committee's 60th foundation day reiterated his pledge to continue to pursue the mission of its founder leader Mirwaiz Moulvi Muhammad Farooq.
