Protests in NY as Modi visits for UN session
September 23, 2024

Protests have erupted in New York as Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits the United States for the UN General Assembly session.

The protesters condemned Narendra Modi's involvement in killings in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and other parts of the world, including Canada and the United States.

The protesters chanted anti India and pro freedom slogans.

In an attempt to showcase normalcy in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, India has invited around 20 foreign diplomats from prominent countries to witness the sham elections in the disputed territory.

The move is being seen as a deception, as diplomats are protesting India's repeated denials of permission for earlier visits.

On the other hand, critics have questioned the credibility of elections, especially when many Kashmiri leaders and activists are imprisoned on fabricated charges.

Even the legality of these elections is being questioned by human rights activists and critics as how an election can replace a UN-promised plebiscite to determine the political future of the Kashmir dispute.

Meanwhile, Indian troops continued cordon and search operations in several areas of Kishtwar, Rajouri and Poonch districts for the third consecutive day, today.
