Dr. Shafqat Munir (Economic Expert):Visit of Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand to Pakistan is very significant in the background of evolving global geopolitical situation. Moreover, Pakistan marvelous achievements on international diplomatic front are bringing friendly countries closer to Pakistan. Now Indian influence in Canada is lessening in result of Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts. In think that in result of Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand’s visit to Pakistan, both countries would further enhance cooperation in trade and investment sectors. Export of Pakistani food products to Canada will bring foreign exchange for Pakistani. Now Canada is also keen investing in Pakistani markets. Creation of Pakistan-Canada Joint commission on trade and investments is on the cards and it will facilitate exchanges of trade delegations. Pakistan also seeks tariff concession on Pakistani exports from Canada. Hopefully, Pakistani side might have taken up this issue with Anti Ananad and it will ensure access of our products to Canadian markets. Pakistan may also seek concession in Non-Tariff Barriers (NTBs) which will link our economy with Canadian economy.  Canada has also been concerned about Indian sponsored terrorism just as Pakistan is facing same situation from India via Afghanistan. Now Pakistan has immense expertise in countering terrorism and Canada may also benefit from our counter terrorism expertise. Canada also opposes conflict and wants peace to resolve issues. Pakistan may also welcome Canadian peace initiative for gulf tensions. Canada has a big market for Halal meet and products.

Canada has announced to invest in multiple sectors in Pakistan. Canada has also announced to export Canola oil to Pakistan which will reduce prices of canola in our local market. We have 3.5 million Pakistanis based in Canada and they are significantly contributing to Canadian development and progress. Moreover, Pakistani expatriates are sending handful amount of foreign exchange to Pakistan. Pakistan and Canada have expressed the commitment to expanding trade and investment relations through a new Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection agreement.
