The centenary celebration to pay tribute to the great Sindhi poet Shaikh Ayaz will be organized for his contribution and services in the field of literature.

This was decided in a review meeting held in Islamabad today with Caretaker Minister for Information and Broadcasting Murtaza Solangi in the chair.

 Caretaker Federal Ministers Jamal Shah and Madad Ali Sindhi also attended the meeting.

Speaking on the occasion, Murtaza Solangi said Shaikh Ayaz was the greatest poet and writer of modern Sindhi poetry. He said Sheikh Ayaz started his poetry in Urdu but he achieved excellence in Sindhi.

Jamal Shah said Sheikh Ayaz introduced new trends in the Sindhi poetry and literature. He said the revered poet was the great writer of not only Sindh but of the entire subcontinent.

Madad Ali Sindhi said the concept of modern Sindh will remain incomplete without the poetry of Sheikh Ayaz. He said Sheikh Ayaz was an epoch-making poet, he is one of the legends whose' academic and literary work began in his lifetime.

The meeting also decided to invite Governor Balochistan Abdul Wali Kakar, Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed, Iftikhar Arif, Saleema Hashmi, Syed Ahmed Shah, Moonis Ayaz and other prominent figures to attend the event.

A documentary film depicting the ups and downs of the life of Sheikh Ayaz, born in 1923 in Shikarpur, and the journey of his poetry will also be presented at the event.

The event will also include panel discussions, dialogues and musical events.
