In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, relatives of the victims of Gaw Kadal massacre continue to await justice even after thirty-four years of the gruesome incident, perpetrated by Indian troops on this day in 1990.
A report released by Kashmir Media Service on the anniversary of the massacre, today, said that over 50 people were martyred in Gaw Kadal area of Srinagar on January 21 in 1990, when Indian troops had resorted to indiscriminate firing on peaceful demonstrators protesting against the molestation of several women by the troops, the previous night.
While the memories of Gaw Kadal like bloodbaths are still fresh in the minds of Kashmiris, over ninity-six thousand two hundred and eighty-seven Kashmiris have fallen to the Indian bullets in the past 35 years.
The report pointed out that scores of brutal massacres were committed to instill fear among the people, and also to change the demography of the occupied territory.
As the World Religion Day is being observed globally, today, Indian continues to suppress the religious freedom in occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
The violation of sanctity of historic Jamia Masjid Srinagar during a military operation in August 1989, desecration of Dargah Hazratbal during the worst military siege in November 1993 and burning of Charar-e-Sharif in May 1995 are some of its glaring examples.
Meanwhile, Indian forces’ personnel have further intensified restrictions in the name of security measures in occupied Jammu and Kashmir ahead of its Republic Day, January 26.
The troops have stepped up checking, frisking and patrolling in the territory. Additional personnel have been deployed in Srinagar and Jammu, including the venue for the main Republic Day function.
A protest demonstration was organized by the International Forum for Justice and Human Rights in Muzaffarabad against Gaw Kadal, Handwara, Kupwara and Sopore and other massacres by Indian troops in occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
