The Narendra Modi-led Indian government while blatantly interfering in the religious matters of Kashmiri Muslims has sealed the bank accounts of a masjid in Srinagar, triggering forceful anti-India protest demonstrations in the city.
The bank accounts of the masjid were sealed in Nowshehra area of Srinagar.
Earlier, in an order passed by the so-called new Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board, the BJP government had disbanded all local committees at Khanqahs and masajids warning that any decision taken by the committees will be punishable under law.
The posters displayed by various Hurriyat groups have been pasted in Srinagar and other areas of the territory. The authorities continued to impose heavy restrictions in terms of checking, frisking, surveillance and patrolling in occupied Jammu and Kashmir. More checkpoints have been set up at key entry points ahead of India’s Republic Day on January 26.
Troops have additionally been deployed in Srinagar and surrounding localities to monitor key areas, especially the venues for the main Republic Day function in Srinagar and Jammu cities.
In yet another incident, an unidentified man’s body was found near a water body in Manjakote area of Rajouri district.
