Afghanistan uses its soil for nefarious designs against Pakistan: Analysts
November 22, 2024

Arishullah (Expert on Afghan Affairs):

According to Doha Accord the interim government in Afghanistan pledged that its soil will not be used against other countries. But the militant organizations having safe havens in the war torn country are using Afghan soil for their nefarious designs against Pakistan. Due to its mis-commitments to the Doha accord, the international community is still not recognizing Afghanistan as a state. The Afghan government is not taking serious actions against the militant organizations there. Pakistan has to adopt certain approaches to deal with the challenge of terrorism emerging from Afghanistan. The government has ordered the illegal Afghan citizens residing in Pakistan to leave the country. Moreover, the trade with Afghanistan must be stopped.

Waheed Ahmed (Former Ambassador):

The United States has vetoed a resolution at the UNSC demanding an immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. It was expected as the United States is supporting Israeli aggression on innocent Palestinians. Meanwhile, Israel will not go for the ceasefire until there is a tangible solution to its security. The newly elected US President Donald Trump in his election campaign stated that he will try to end all sorts of war currently going on. Unfortunately, till the date, nearly 44,000 Palestinians have been killed in the Israeli bombardment of Gaza, which has also plunged the coastal territory into a humanitarian crisis. The so-called human rights organizations are adopting a criminal silence on whatsoever is happening in Gaza and against innocent Palestinians. There is only the two-nation theory for the prevailing situation at Gaza strip.

Ashfaq Yousaf Tola (Economist):

Tax reforms are the need of the hour in order to increase the tax collection. There is a process of progress and improvement everywhere but in the case of Pakistan we are trying to bring in reforms that are never delivered in the true sense. The government is walking on a tightrope as on the one hand it had to protect the ordinary man, while on the other it would have to remain in the IMF programme and those two are contradictory situations. Moreover, the government should not impose extra taxes, which would have a direct impact on the common man and consequently, weighing various options to protect the common man. A flat taxation system would help fast economic growth and reduce the complexities.
