Analyst hails Pakistan’s presence at R4 meeting
October 23, 2026

Amb. Waheed Ahmad (Former Diplomat):In an international geopolitical shift, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has participated in the 6th R4 Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Istanbul. Besides Ishaq Dar, Turkish, Saudi and Egyptian foreign ministers were also present in the meeting. Factually, the 6th R4 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Istanbul is very important because it provided a platform to all four countries to exchange views on the prevailing regional and international situation. This meeting is crucial especially after the signing of Defence Production agreement among the four countries in Qatar. I think that all four foreign ministers would have discussed the follow up progress on defence production agreement along with new ideas. Likewise, increasing escalation in West Asia between Iran and US would have been discussed in the meeting. In this context, positive outcome from this meeting is expected. Previously, Pakistan has played successful mediatory role between US and Iran; therefore, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar remains actively visible at almost all regional diplomatic forums and activities. Pakistan remains abreast of all the regional and international developments and exchanges views with regional and global partners. At present, there are two dominating opposite developments and trends on the international political arena. One is related to Eurasia or new international order. Even Makkah Agreement is also seen in the background of new world order. Other one is the Indian hegemony related bullying attitude towards neighbours and threats to regional and international partners. So it is very important for Pakistan to remain in contact with all those who are concerned over Indian threats.
