Former South Korean President Chun Doo-hwan has passed away on Tuesday in Seoul after protracted illness. He was 90.

In a statement, his former press secretary Min Chung-ki told press that the deceased had been battling blood cancer since long.

Chun Doo-hwan's had come into power with a military coup in 1979 which sparked massive democracy protests.
