The 8th death anniversary of Pakistani women's rights activist Nigar Ahmed is being observed on Monday.

She is also known for founding the Aurat Foundation in Lahore in 1985. She was one of the first feminists in Pakistan.

Nigar Ahmed was also the recipient of many national awards for her work. She was the first to ensure female empowerment by encouraging women to play political roles in local bodies.

She passed away on this day after a prolonged illness in 2017.
