March 24, 2024

Human rights violations have escalated to alarming levels since the Modi-led Indian regime revoked the special status of occupied Jammu and Kashmir in August 2019.

A report released by Kashmir Media Service on the occasion of the "International Day for the Right to the Truth Concerning Gross Human Rights Violations and for the Dignity of Victims" today, highlights the dire situation in the occupied territory.

It said nearly 96,292 people have been martyred by Indian forces since January 1989 till date in IIOJK.

It said India is using draconian laws, including Armed Forces Special Powers Act , Public Safety Act and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act to stifle political dissent in the territory.

Political leaders, women, youth, human rights activists, and journalists face abduction, threats, and torture at the hands of Indian occupation forces.

Meanwhile, APHC spokesman Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas, in a statement issued in Srinagar urged global human rights organizations to pressure New Delhi to respect the basic rights of Kashmiri people particularly, detainees.

In related developments, Indian forces arrested four Kashmiri youth in Nowgam area of Srinagar on charges of being over-ground workers.

Furthermore, the mysterious death of a 23-year-old youth in Budgam and the discovery of an unidentified male body in Srinagar underscore the threat to the lives of civilians in occupied Jammu and Kashmir, which is the world's most militarized zone.

Speakers at a seminar in Geneva, called for international intervention to resolve the Kashmir dispute and uphold human rights in the conflict zone.
