In Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, People continued massive protests on the fourth consecutive day, today against the extortion imposed in the name of toll tax by the Narendra Modi-led Indian government in Samba district.

The protests were held in Jammu, Samba, Hiranagar, Kathua, Udhampur, Rajouri, Ramban and other towns to seek the removal of a toll plaza on the Jammu-Pathankot highway and release of the protesters arrested by the Indian police in the last few days.

Indian police resorted to teargas shelling and lathi-charge at several places to disperse the protesters, triggering clashes between the demonstrators and the police personnel.

National Conference President, Farooq Abdullah, in a statement in Srinagar condemned the use of brute force by Indian police on the protesters.

Congress party leaders including Raman Bhalla visited Kathua Jail to meet the detained protesters.

However, they were not allowed to meet the detainees prompting them to protest outside the jail. Speaking on the occasion, Raman Bhalla said the ground situation in Jammu and Kashmir is contrary to the claims of Bharatiya Janata Party leadership about colossal development and lasting peace.

Meanwhile, the APHC-AJK chapter organized a function in Islamabad to pay rich tributes to Hurriyat leaders, Mushtaq Ahmed Wani and Dr Abdul Aala on their death anniversaries.

The speakers on the occasion said that Mushtaq Ahmad Wani and Dr Abdul Aala contributed a lot in the freedom struggle.

On the other hand, protest demonstrations were held near the BRICS Summit venue in Johannesburg and other South African cities against Indian government's oppressive policies in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir and persecution of minorities by Hindutva forces in India.

The protests took place as Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, was in Johannesburg to attend the summit.

The protesters were holding placards with slogans “India Implement UN resolutions on Kashmir”, “India stop killing of minorities”.
