Caretaker Health Minister Dr Nadeem Jan says Pakistan will host Global Health Security Summit in October this year with the aim to devise a charter to curb the menace of emerging tendencies of pandemics.
Addressing a National Health Security Workshop in Islamabad on Thursday, he said several health experts and donors will participate in the summit and will formulate a plan to prevent the disease before its invasion.
Stressing the need of vaccine equity, he urged rich countries to provide forty percent vaccine to poor countries in case of the outbreak of any pandemic.
The Minister said Pakistan is developing its ties with South Africa and Brazil to build its capacity of the vaccine manufacturing which will enable us to effectively respond to any pandemic.
Terming Global Health Security as pivotal for multifarious reasons, he said it not only builds the capacity but it effectively prevents, detects and responds the pandemic.
Dr Nadeem Jan expressed satisfaction that Pakistan has enormous intellectual resources in Healthcare sector but it is also facing numerous diseases such as TB, polio, diabetes and Hepatitis.
The Minister also expressed commitment to end the circulation of polio virus in the country by December this year.
