Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain has directed all provincial governments to strictly enforce wholesale and retail price of sugar with daily monitoring and necessary action against any violations.
He gave these directions while chairing a meeting in Islamabad today to address concerns regarding sugar prices and ensure uniform enforcement of agreed rates across the country.
The Minister firmly rebuffed claims of discrepancies in sugar pricing, stating that the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association has already agreed to set the wholesale price at 159 rupees per kilogrammes.
He emphasized that provinces must ensure compliance with this agreement to prevent unnecessary price fluctuations.
The Minister said wholesale price of sugar is 159 rupees per kilogrammes and the retail price is 164 rupees per kilogram. He said any deviation from the agreed sugar prices is unacceptable.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Secretary Food reported that the ex-mill price of sugar in the province stands at 164 rupees per kilogrammes.
Rana Tanveer Hussain stressed that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa authorities must enforce the agreed wholesale price as per the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association's commitment.
