Dr. Huma Baqai (IR Expert):Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his team’s engagements and activities on the sidelines of United Nations’ General Assembly are continuity of Pakistan’s high rising diplomacy. In result of diplomacy of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Pakistan has been on the radar of international politics. Pakistan has been on the global radar for mediating efforts and strategic maturity in responding to challenges related to Afghanistan, Iran and other issues. Pakistan is also in the limelight at UNGA, as Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister have delivered good speeches and interacted with global leaders. There were good optics for Pakistan in Prime Minister’s meeting with Iranian President as well as good optics for him in highlighting Pakistan’s narrative at the august forum. So far as the issue of peace in Middle East is concerned it think that ball of peace is in the US court because Iran has categorically said that it does not have any intention to get nuclear arsenal. China is also an essential stakeholder in gulf peace and is closely monitoring the situation arising out of Iran, US conflict. At the same time, Israel is the most isolated one in gulf and the world. At present UN has not been successful in resolving global disputes among the member states. Therefore, sideline meetings are more important than UNGA session. Iran-US escalation may lead to World War-III.
