Christian community in Pakistan celebrated Christmas today [Wednesday] as elsewhere in the world.
Addressing a special Christmas ceremony at Prime Minister House in Islamabad today, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif called for promoting peace and brotherhood and to end discrimination and divides.
He called to work together for the progress of the country which is a homeland for all communities.
He assured minorities that their welfare and prosperity is one of topmost priorities of government.
Earlier, addressing the event, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar paid rich tribute to Christian community for their contributions in progress and development of the country.
On this festive day, General Syed Asim Munir conveyed his heartfelt Christmas greetings to Christian community across the nation.
Speaking at a Christmas ceremony at St. Joseph's Catholic Cathedral Church in Rawalpindi, he acknowledged remarkable contributions of minorities and Christian community to Pakistan's cultural, social, economic and national progress.
Meanwhile, Corps Commander of Balochistan attended prayer ceremonies at historic St. Mary's Church and Holy Rosary Church in Quetta to express solidarity with Christian community.
In his address, he said Christian community has made significant contributions to Pakistan's development and social harmony.
He added Christmas is not just a festival but a message of peace, love, and brotherhood that promotes social unity and mutual respect.
Besides, Christmas celebrations were held at various churches of Southern Punjab
The Christian community's priests and the general public expressed their gratitude on this occasion and said that they feel safe in Pakistan and the people of other religions stand with them in times of joy and sorrow.
