Minister for Law, Justice and Human Rights Azam Nazeer Tarar has reaffirmed Pakistan's unwavering commitment to the promotion and protection of human rights at the national and international levels.
Addressing the high-level segment of 58th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, he said Pakistan has taken robust legislative and policy measures including enacting over seventy human rights-related laws in the past decade.
Azam Nazeer Tarar termed the recent 26th Constitutional Amendment recognizing a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment, as milestones in Pakistan's human rights framework.
The Minister also announced Pakistan's resumption of voluntary contributions to key UN trust funds, including those for victims of torture, implementation of Universal Periodic Review, and the participation of Small Island Developing States and Least Developed Countries in the Council.
Addressing global human rights concerns, the Law Minister condemned Israel's ongoing atrocities in occupied Palestine, particularly in Gaza, and reiterated that forced displacement and demographic re-engineering violate fundamental principles of international law.
Azam Nazeer Tarar also denounced India's illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir and its continued denial of the Kashmiri people's right to self-determination.
He urged the international community to take decisive action to uphold the rights of Palestinians and Kashmiri people.
