Modi regime becomes source of hardship for Muslims in West Bengal: Report
June 28, 2026

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's growing hatred towards other religions has made life miserable for Muslims in second-largest Muslim-populated state, West Bengal.

Modi government has adopted stringent policies aimed at the forced removal of Bengali Muslims, without any criminal charges or proven wrongdoing against them.

According to the US based Human Rights Research Centre, a detect-delete-deport policy is being implemented under the Modi government, under which Bengali Muslims are being moved across borders without full verification of identity documents.

Human rights lawyer Amaan Wadood states that individuals are being declared foreign nationals on the basis of minor discrepancies in documentation, followed by forced removals from the country.

The Human Rights Research Centre further reports that approximately 50,000 Muslims have been displaced from their homes through the application of outdated legal provisions.

It further stated that BJP has also demolished thousands of Muslim homes in West Bengal without prior notice, significantly affecting living conditions.

South Asia affairs researcher Arjuna Chatterjee says that political rhetoric targeting Muslims has created an increasingly hostile environment.
