Federal Minister for Industries and Production Rana Tanveer Hussain says decision regarding export Sugar will be made after consultation with various governments’ departments.
He was chairing a meeting of the Sugar Advisory Board in Islamabad today to assess the current stock position of sugar during the harvest season in the country.
The meeting was attended by the Federal Minister for Commerce, Jam Kamal Khan, Federal Secretary for Industries and Production, and the Secretary of National Food Security and Research.
He directed authorities concerned to ensure the uninterrupted supply of sugar and price stability till the start of next crushing season.
Terming the protection of local consumers of sugar as the top priority of government, Rana Tanveer Hussain asked to ensure that the price of sugar does not increase after its export permission.
The Minister said this year, the total sugar production in the country is 6.8 million metric tons, with an additional stock of 700,000 metric tons available with the mills from the last year.
The annual national requirements are 6 million metric tons. At present, there is a stock of 4.5 million metric tons of sugar available with the sugar mills.
