Thousands of Kashmiris have been subjected to enforced disappearance during custody by Indian troops and police over the last thirty-five years in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

A report released by the Research Section of Kashmir Media Service on the occasion of the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances, today, said that at least 8,000 innocent Kashmiris have vanished after being detained by Indian military and police forces since 1989.

The report highlighted that during this period the IIOJK being the most militarized zone in the world had also seen killings, torture, rape and other brutalities at the hands of Indian troops.

The report criticized the impunity granted to Indian troops under black laws like the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, which facilitates a climate of fear and repression

Meanwhile, incarcerated All Parties Hurriyat Conference Chairman Masarat Aalam Butt and senior Hurriyat leader Shabbir Ahmed Shah, in their messages from Tihar Jail, have urged the people of IIOJK to visit Syed Ali Gilani’s grave at Hyderpora in Srinagar, this Sunday to mark the third anniversary of his martyrdom.

They lauded Gilani’s lifelong dedication to advocating for Kashmiris’ right to self-determination and described him as a hero whose courage and determination will always be remembered.
