Evidence has surfaced regarding the presence of illegal Afghan nationals in the PTI's protest. 

These illegal Afghans were paid to instigate violence at the protest.

A detained illegal Afghan militant, Baitullah said that they fired at police and Rangers personnel.

Another arrested Afghan Ibrar-ul-Haq said they were lured with two to three thousand rupees by the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to open fire on security personnel. He further stated that their gunfire resulted in injuries to Islamabad police personnel.

Other detainees have made similar confessional statements.
