The people of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir were stopped and prohibited by the Indian authorities from offering Eid-ul-Fitr prayers at the historic Jamia Masjid and Eidgah in Srinagar city.
According to Kashmir Media Service, All Parties Hurriyat Conference senior leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has strongly condemned the authorities’ decision to once again denied the Muslims of Kashmir the basic right to offer Eid prayers at Eidgah and Jamia Masjid in Srinagar which have been closed down and detained him at his home.
He said Eidgah and Jamia Masjid belong to the people and barring them from these sacred spaces even on Eid reflects an oppressive and authoritarian approach that prevails in Kashmir today.
The tradition of celebrating Eid alongside Pakistan underscores the deep cultural and religious ties between the people of Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan.
However, the joy of Eid is marred by stringent restrictions imposed by BJP govertment in the occupied territory.
