Amb Haroon Shaukat (Former Diplomat): Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has highlighted three main pillars of Makkah Joint Defence Agreement as peace and stability are fundamental to prosperity. Actually, skirmishes between Iran and Gulf countries have hurt regional stability. So, Makkah Joint Defence Agreement will ensure stability in the region tantamount to regional prosperity. Pakistan and Turkiye are very advanced in defence productions so I think that there is going to be great defence cooperation among three countries in coming days. So, defence industry may take center place in the trilateral cooperation and region may move towards self-reliance in defence sector. Makkah Agreement may also create a buffer zone between Israel and Gulf countries. Makkah Agreement is beginning of new power architecture in the Middle East. In the recent past Pakistan entered in diplomacy in the US, Iran tensions and won regional security in the shape of peace MoU. Now Pakistan has stepped forward for security of Saudi Arabia along with Turkiye. Makkah Agreement to create deterrence against any aggression against any one of three countries. Moreover, Makkah Agreement is of defensive nature and not against any country.
Amb. A M Shahid (Former Diplomat): Makkah Joint Defence Agreement is of defensive nature and not against any country. However, any attack on a single country to be termed as attack on all three countries and all three countries will respond to the attack jointly and collectively. So Makkah Joint Defence Agreement a very important as Saudi is a rich country while Turkiye has very advance defence sector. Now Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has also said that Makkah Joint Defence Agreement open for other countries too. Pact is also being widely discussed globally; however, India is opposing this agreement for the sake of opposition. In the presence of this agreement, India will not be able to attack Pakistan because Indian attack will be considered as attack on Saudi Arabia and Turkiye too.
