Amb. A M Shahid (Former Diplomat): Pakistan and Azerbaijan have cordial historical, cultural, deep rooted exemplary ties. Both countries have been supporting each other in almost every hour of need and supported each other’s position on regional and international issues. Both countries also have good trade and strategic ties. Therefore, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a telephonic conversation with President Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyevand discussed ongoing bilateral ties. PM also reaffirmed Pakistan’s deep-rooted, fraternal and strategic partnership with Azerbaijan. Factually both the countries are trying to expand bilateral cooperation in diverse sectors and fields. Both the leaders also exchanged views on regional and international issues. It is very good for both the countries that Pakistan and Azerbaijan have unanimity of views on regional and international issues.  This unanimity of views will also be beneficial for the region as both countries will be in a position to move forward with consensus to press the world to resolve issues peacefully through dialogue and talks.

Dr. Zahid Anwar Khan (IR Expert):Pakistan and Azerbaijan enjoy cordial relations and both have played key role in regional peace and order. Both countries are supporting each other on their core issues like Kashmir and Nagorno-Karabakh. Both have unanimity of views and convergence of interests on regional and international issues. Pakistan and Azerbaijan also have immense potential to further strengthen economic and strategic cooperation. Pakistan may also meet energy needs by importing petroleum products from Azerbaijan. Due to strategic geographical location, Pakistan is very crucial for regional connectivity and Azerbaijan can also benefit from this geographical location of Pakistan. Pakistan has also provided full support to Azerbaijan with defence technologies. Azerbaijan also sided with Pakistan during last year’s war between Pakistan and India. Pakistan gave a humiliating defeat to India and this victory over India lifted Pakistan’s international stature. Several more countries including Azerbaijan also are inclined to join Makkah Agreement with Pakistan for their defence and security.
