55th martyrdom anniversary of Major Aziz Bhatti observed

The 55th martyrdom anniversary of Major Raja Aziz Bhatti Shaheed, Nishan-e-Haider, was observed on Saturday.

Major Raja Aziz Bhatti Shaheed was born in Hong Kong in 1928 and moved to Pakistan before independence in 1947, settling in Ladian village of district Gujrat.

In 1950, he joined newly formed Pakistan Army and was commissioned in Punjab Regiment.

During Indo-Pak War in September, 1965 as a company commander in Burki, Lahore, he decided to stay with his forward platoon and defended strategic BRB Canal bravely for five days.

Throughout, undaunted by constant fire from enemies' tanks and artillery, he organized the defense of the BRB canal along with his brave soldiers until he was hit by an enemy's shell and got martyred.

Director General ISPR Major General Babar Iftikhar has said that the nation honours the supreme sacrifice by Major Raja Aziz Bhatti Shaheed, Nishan-e-Haider, in 1965 war.

In a tweet on Saturday on the occasion of 55th Martyrdom Anniversary of Major Raja Aziz Bhatti Shaheed, Nishan-e-Haider, he said his stellar leadership and courage beckons us to defend Pakistan, come what may.

He said our martyrs are our heroes.

Nation proud of brave soldiers who sacrifice their lives for motherland: Shibli

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Shibli Faraz has said that on the day of martyrdom of Major Raja Aziz Bhatti Shaheed, the nation pays homage to its hero.

In a tweet, he said the nation is proud of the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the defence of their motherland.
